Creative Parental Leave!
Today is the last day of my parental leave. For 6 months I’ve been home with my twin daughters (they were almost 9 months old when I started, and soon 16 months).
I’ve spent a lot of time with them, but I have managed to stay creative in the few hours every now and then when they were taking naps. I have to say I’m a bit impressed in retrospect!
Haxe Macros
I’ve read up on the black art that is Macros in Haxe, and managed to speed up the performance of my ECS framework by over 400%!!!
2D Platformer Engine
A firend asked if he could use my platformer engine for a project of his. Fun! I spent a few days adding a few features here and here.
The project didn’t turn into anything, but it was fun while it lasted.
Shader Week
Use at least one hour for seven days to study and write shaders in Unity. Another black art.
3D Math
And for the last two months I’ve spent a lot of time trimming the math part of my brain again, as I’ve been working on something that is starting to look as a software 3d engine. Completely from scratch!
Markdeep
I also managed to look into markdeep (which is quite nice) and modify it a bit to better fit my needs!
And tomorrow it’s time to start developing virtual worlds again. Only with the small change that I now has to drop off or pick up from daycare… Things change a lot after you get children =)
